Meet the therapist:
Sean Maybery, MA, LPC, LCDC
I am Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (LCDC) in the state of Texas. As a therapist, my goal is to help clients improve themselves, their relationships, and their overall happiness and satisfaction with life.
My style will be tailored to your specific needs and personality, as I don't believe a cookie-cutter approach to therapy is beneficial. I typically approach therapy from two perspectives: cognitive behaviorism and psychodynamic theory. I believe that thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are linked together, and I will work to help you realize that connection by helping you improve your awareness. I also believe that events from your childhood impact who you are today. Although many people don't want to connect their pasts to their current problems or issues with life, I often find that healing these wounds leads to better and longer-lasting positive outcomes rather than just fixing the surface level issues.
I am trained in Eye Movement Desinsitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR).
My areas of focus include: trauma with special interest in childhood trauma impacting adulthood that present as chronic anxiety, depression, etc; mood disorders; sexual assault survivors; survivors of suicide (family members/friends of someone who suicided); family members of someone struggling with addiction; anxiety disorders; anger management, relationships, and life changes.
